Founded in 1998, Design of Systems on Silicon S.A. (DS2), is the leading supplier of silicon and software for Powerline Communications (PLC) and the first company to develop and market PLC chipsets delivering data rates of up to 200 Mbps. The high-performance, highly versatile, low-cost chipsets are the chips of choice on the market for ultimate performance, feature-rich, low-cost PLC modems and consumer electronics appliances.

DS2 technology sets global benchmarks in terms of performance and features and enhances the competitive advantages of broadband PLC, providing solutions for every segment of the network, from the most performance-demanding backhaul optical switch to the most cost-sensitive home networking PLC appliance.

Headquartered in Valencia on the east coast of Spain, DS2 is a private company. The company was founded on seed capital provided by local industrialists. The shareholder base was expanded in 2000 with the entry of the Spanish electricity company, Endesa (www.Endesa.com), who now holds a 15% stake in the company. Further expansion took place in 2003 with the entry of the Japanese trading corporation, Itochu (www.Itochu.com), who have approximately a 2% stake in the company.

The company currently employs over 100 highly qualified graduates and continues to invest in the innovation and design of chips and in the development of strategic partnerships with manufacturers to accelerate the implantation of this technology in both the PLC access and consumer electronics markets.

THE DSS9XXX FAMILY

The DSS9XXX family of Powerline Communications (PLC) ICs offers solutions for a wide range of market segments, including home media networks, in-building LANs and low voltage and medium voltage PLC access networks.

The DSS9XXX-based series of PLC modem devices share the same physical layer characteristics, allowing seamless integration of access, in-building and in-home media networks. Advanced OFDM modulation provides the ability to cope with all of the powerline channel impairments while using high-density constellations that provide a throughput of more than 200 Mbps.
