HomePlug Powerline Alliance States FCC Ruling Will Accelerate Growth for In-the-Home and To-the-Home Powerline Communications

Ruling demonstrates the importance of the alliance's commitment to global unification of powerline technologies

SAN RAMON, CA- October 21, 2004 - HomePlug® Powerline Alliance, Inc., an industry consortium that creates global specifications for high-speed powerline networking products and services, states that the recent approval of Broadband over Power Line (BPL) by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) should accelerate deployment of powerline communications and increase the importance of the Alliance's efforts to create compatible global standards for both in-the-home and to-the-home applications.

"The FCC ruling is a very positive development for powerline communications," said the Alliance president Oleg Logvinov, who is also president and CEO of Arkados, Inc. a subsidiary of CDKNet.com, Inc. (OTCBB: CDKN). "It also demonstrates the importance of the Alliance's work to create standards that will maximize performance of both in-the-home and to-the-home powerline applications."

The FCC's ruling resolves the regulatory uncertainty surrounding BPL solutions and opens the door for continued market growth of the technology. The HomePlug Powerline Alliance is taking the lead to develop compatible specifications for in-the-home and to-the-home powerline applications, and believes that a sound co-existence solution will fuel market growth, help build business relationships, and create a better user experience for all customers.

Having already developed and released HomePlug 1.0, the world's only standard for powerline communications, the Alliance is currently finalizing its specification for HomePlug AV, a high-speed networking technology designed specifically to meet the needs of digital multimedia networks in the home. Additionally, the Alliance is moving forward to define a specification for BPL technology.

Steve Howe, Vice President of Strategy at EarthLink and a member of the Board of Directors of the HomePlug Alliance, said, "We applaud the HomePlug Alliance for leading the effort to create a unified suite of standards for power line, whether used in the home for data-networking and home theatre, or outside the home for Broadband over Power Line."

As an open organization, the HomePlug Powerline Alliance invites all interested parties to join and contribute to the development of the Alliance's powerline specifications. Companies interested in receiving information regarding the HomePlug Powerline Alliance are invited to contact the Executive Director, Rob Ranck (rranck@inventures.com).
