HomePlug Powerline Alliance Endorses Net-atHome™ 2004

The industry's foremost powerline communications alliance sheds light on the importance of setting advanced, interoperable standards at the industry's leading conference

SAN RAMON, CA- September 8, 2004 - HomePlug® Powerline Alliance, Inc., an industry consortium that creates specifications for high-speed powerline networking products and services, will present the case for standards as an impetus to widespread market growth at Net-atHome™ 2004, held November 30th through December 2nd in Nice, France.

The HomePlug Powerline Alliance, which has already created the only worldwide standard for high-speed powerline communication, is currently at work on the new HomePlug AV specification -- a technology that supports the high-bandwidth and low-latency demands of concurrent HDTV streams, VoIP conversations, and multimedia data transfer throughout the home. HomePlug AV technology will provide a 200Mbps class service at the physical layer and also will provide advanced QoS (quality of service) features geared towards meeting the requirements of all emerging audio-visual and IP applications.

"We are very pleased to have the HomePlug Powerline Alliance endorse the Net-atHome™ conference and to use this event as a platform to communicate the latest news on the HomePlug AV specification," said Karine Valin, General Manager of Homega Research. "We see powerline communications as a way to solve the problems of transmitting digital entertainment throughout the home."

The Net-atHome™ conference provides the perfect venue to present and discuss issues surrounding the advent of the digital home. "HomePlug technology is an increasingly important part of the digital home," said Oleg Logvinov, president of the HomePlug Powerline Alliance, and also president and CEO of Arkados, Inc. "HomePlug 1.0 is well established in the marketplace. We are now moving into the final stage of the specification process for HomePlug AV. We are pleased that Net-atHome™ recognizes the Alliance's efforts to create a technology that can provide whole house connectivity for audio video products."

All HomePlug AV and HomePlug v1.0.x devices will be able to operate together on the same power line. The HomePlug AV specification will also support specific product implementations that allow HomePlug v1.0 products to interoperate with HomePlug AV products. The HomePlug Alliance expects the HomePlug AV specification to be released during the first quarter of 2005.

All interested parties are invited to join the HomePlug Powerline Alliance and contribute to the development of its specifications. Companies interested in receiving information regarding the HomePlug Powerline Alliance are invited to contact the Executive Director, Rob Ranck (rranck@inventures.com).
