Broadband services over the power grid

TSHWANE Africa municipality is gearing up to provide broadband data communication to the surrounding community across its power grid at speeds of between 3 megabits per second (mbps) to 5mbps using the Powerline technology standard.

It is now legal, in terms of new regulations introduced by the minister in February, for any municipality to do this, and there is a potential to generate substantial income from it, says Charles Kuun, manager of the Tshwane digital hub.
