Power lines can now carry the Internet digital signal to your home. Homes can now use the wiring in the walls to transmit the network and Internet signals throughout the homes numerous wall plugin sockets. Simply plug-in and you are connected. New broadband powerline Internet radios and televisions are entering the world market. New personal computers(PCs) are including the power line chipset for automatic network communications. University Park, Pa. -- Penn State engineers have developed a new model for high-speed broadband transmissions over U.S. overhead electric power lines and estimate that, at full data rate handling capacity, the lines can provide bit rates that far exceed DSL or cable over similar spans.

Kyodo) _ Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Mitsubishi Electric Corp. and Sony Corp. said Thursday they have agreed to form an alliance for global diffusion of common specifications for high-speed power line communications. The group, tentatively named the CE-Powerline Communication Alliance, will encourage other consumer electronics and information technology companies in the world to cooperate in promoting power line-based home networking, they said. CE stands for consumer electronics.

...HomePlug advocates believe the technology may be victorious in the competition to carry video. A new standard, HomePlug AV, is due to be ratified in the first quarter of this year, and products using the technology will probably appear in early 2006. HomePlug AV will provide a theoretical throughput of 200 megabits per second, which would translate to a real-world speed of 70 to 120 mbps, according to Andy Melder, senior vice president of Intellon, which makes chips for HomePlug products.

Powerline networking has been a staple of the consumer electronics industry since the X-10 home automation system was launched in the 1970s, but its progress has been less than impressive. However, that could change with the adoption of the HomePlug 1.0 standard and, in the UK, Packard Bell has already launched a PC with HomePlug built in.

    The uses are unlimited. With the marriage of Powerline and Wireless, the final solution to networking has been achieved. Wireless limitations has now been overcome by the power grid. By using the electrical wires, the digital data signal can be passed throughout a building. Small modules plugged into the electricity outlet then beams the wireless signal throughout the location.

    The Utility companies are now seeing the potential of entering into the telecommunications market by supplying Internet via the power lines which are already in place. This proves to have enormous potential for many countries in the world who have no solid Internet system. Now these countries will be able to use their electricity grid to make the Internet accessable.
