UPLC Sets the Record Straight on BPL Interference
June 22, 2004
WASHINGTON - The FCC's proposals are appropriate; NTIA's recommendations and ARRL's naysaying are misguided. The United Power Line Council (UPLC) forcefully replied to concerns about harmful interference from BPL in reply comments filed today, and urged the FCC to move forward quickly to develop rules that will encourage more development and deployment of BPL services to the public.

WASHINGTON: January 29, 2003, Agriculture Secretary Ann M. Veneman announced that US Department of Agriculture will provide $1.4 billion in loans for the deployment of broadband service to underserved communities. Underserved communities are defined by the Rural Utilities Service as having fewer than 20,000 inhabitants.

The FCC said late Wednesday that it plans to file a notice of inquiry in the Federal Register into the viability of using power lines to provide broadband and Internet services. While it is unclear whether broadband over power line (BPL) will be less expensive to set up than cable or digital subscriber lines (DSL), the inquiry offers the promise of a third way to deliver broadband into the home.
